On January 26, Australia is celebrating the day Captain Cook discovered Australia, now known as Australia Day (MY COUNTRY!!). Here’s the article that Isobel.Stardoll wrote in the Lookbook.

Sydney-based designer Mamie Skillings founded her label in 2000 & is known for both her expert cutting & quirky & playful use of colour, print & texture quality. Born in Italy, Nicola Finetti later moved to Sydney where he launched his eponymous label in the mid 1990s. His collections are often anchored with bold textural details & contrasting graphics.

Ayers Rock – Uluru

Ayers Rock is also known by its Aboriginal name “Uluru”.  It’s a sacred part of Aboriginal creation mythology, or Dreamtime. Uluru is considered 1 of the natural wonders of the world & 1 of Australia’s most recognizable icons.

Australia Day

The tradition of having January 26 as Australia Day is a recent 1, it wasn’t until 1994 did that it began to be a regularly celebrated as a public holiday. Still controversial for many Aussies – it commemorates both the arrival of the British fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 - & as “Survival Day” – the survival of Aboriginal people & culture in the centuries since that same event.

Saint Lucy’s Day (in Swedish: Luciadagen) is observed on Dec 13.

Its modern day celebration is generally associated with Sweden. In traditional traditions, Saint Lucy comes as a young women with lights & sweets - often in a procession is headed by 1 girl wearing a crown of candles (or lights), while others in the procession hold a single candle each. Boys in the procession may be dressed in the same kind of white robe as the girls but with a cone-shaped hat decorated with golden stars and are called stjarngossar (star boys).

Carin Wester's take on effortless Swedish cool mixes simplicity with style, and plays on femininity without being overly girly through a careful use of structure, texture, & detail.

Sandra Backlund has discovered in knitwear a truly artistic voice. Her collections are full of creative line, eye-catching shapes and sculptured fantasy executed at the highest level of skill.


The total land of area of Sweden is 41.3 million hectares, of which 23 million hectares is forest -- and over 80% of the forest is made up of cone bearing pine trees, like spruce and pine. Sweden as a country has a considerable proportion the remaining old-growth forests in Europe.

Finland Special

Finland's Independence Day (Finnish itsenäisyyspäivä, Swedish självständighetsdag) celebrate Finland's declaration of independence on 6 Dec 1917. Shops decorate their windows in blue & white of the Finnish flag, and bakeries producing cakes with blue & white icing. It is traditional for many Finnish families to light 2 candles in each window of their home in the evening.

Minna Parikka has been designing shoes since she was 15 yrs old. She studied shoe design in England and worked in both London & Ital before returning to Helsinki in 2005 to work on her new label - featuring not only shoes, but knitwear, scarves and other accessories. Ivana Helsinki was founded by designer Paola Suhonen and her sister Pinjo with an aesthetic of genuine-use with for a reputation for Finnish hand labor & high quality materials.

The Sibelius Movement is dedicated to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) located in Sibelius park (Sibeliuspuisto) in Helsinki. The monument was designed by Eila Hiltunen & sparked a lively debate about the merits & flaws of abstract art.
